Faces of X: Resources for Analyzing News Sources

  • Grades 9-12 | Teaching Resource

Overview

In a polarized environment that increasingly presents only two sides to any issue, it has become challenging to engage with multiple perspectives and construct complex arguments. This activity encourages students to go beyond binary structures by analyzing opposing arguments and then incorporating valuable ideas from both sides to develop more complex perspectives and solutions. A valuable resource for this exercise is Faces of X – now Synthesis Media – a series of short videos that present the strongest opposing arguments of a current issue with an accompanying synthesis of both arguments.
